Milky rocks and stiff grass
Surrounded us in solace.
Grace and mystery burned
Through our all-seeing eyes,
The canons and bunkers
Were to me, those giants
of Broken we left our home to -
Invasive and unfit - our cause for compassion.

Our fortress alone
Bore the weight of our hopes.
Our house a ghost in our minds,
The mobile our home.
It was on the shores
We became as we are,
Where we left our fears behind
The water-weighted logs.
From the cliffs our small minds
Leaped in unison with our hearts
As the truth turned simple
Without the city lights.
Our castles with crow feathers,
And glass as lucid as our dreams,
Were washed away by the salted waters -
Temporarily magnificent -
As we were in that place.
My childhood buried in the sand,
Yours in the water.

We go back there and search
Under the sun and the stars,
In the earth, in the tide.
We can't quite find it
Without the other there.

There is a place down in the U.S. called Fort Casey. It's a seaside bunker establishment left over from one of the wars that my family and I have gone to since I was about 3 or 4.
The place itself is absolutely breathtaking, and even though it's not in Canada, it's always felt like home to me.
This poem is about my brother and I.

I really like this. I love reading poems about family, and I think you were successful with this one.
